“Tasks” on ChatGPT allow you to request actions to be scheduled over time.
What is ChatGPT tasks feature?
This January, ChatGPT launched Tasks, its new feature accessible to subscribers of the ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Pro offers. It allows users to schedule actions and reminders, which ChatGPT will execute deferred.
To use ChatGPT Tasks, go to the language models area (top right), select ChatGPT-4o with scheduled tasks , then make your request using a text query. You can change the parameters of your request by clicking on the created task. Your different tasks can be viewed in the section dedicated to them (from your user icon, top right of the interface). This option allows you to schedule up to 10 tasks simultaneously.
Once the task is completed by the chatbot, it can be visible as a push notification and it is also possible to schedule an email sending. To configure notifications, follow these steps:
- Click on your user icon in the upper right corner,
- Choose Settings ,
- Go to Notifications ,
- Next to Tasks, select Push Notifications and/or Email , depending on your preference.
However, the email notification will simply send you a link to the ChatGPT interface, without directly integrating the response.

ChatGPT Tasks offers the ability to schedule recurring items. To do this, you can enable a daily, weekly, monthly or even annual recurrence. Here are five examples of requests you can make to the chatbot:

- “Every day at 6 pm, suggest a Spanish word or expression to learn, with an explanation and an example sentence to use it.”

ChatGPT Tasks also offers the ability to schedule one-time reminders for specific events or single tasks. Here are five examples of requests you can make to the chatbot:

- “Alert me on April 24, 2025 to file my tax return”

ChatGPT Task: Limited functionality
In its current form, ChatGPT Tasks is clearly not a revolution. Push notification or email reminders do not really offer any added value compared to an online calendar. Furthermore, ChatGPT Tasks only offers two options: scheduling a one-off or recurring action, on predefined days and times. It is therefore impossible to trigger a notification based on a variable (for example: “notify me when the match score changes” or “notify me when the stock price exceeds such and such a sum” ).
Finally, still in beta phase, ChatGPT Tasks displays recurring bugs. It is not uncommon to see the functionality stop for several hours.
For OpenAI, this new option nevertheless represents a first step towards the creation of an autonomous conversational agent. According to Bloomberg , the firm is preparing the imminent release of its Operator project, an AI agent capable of controlling computers independently.
